Ellen
T. Fisher created The Greater Philadelphia Women's Yellow Pages in
1982. The Women's Yellow Pages is a directory of women-owned businesses
and services targeted to women. Since its inception, over 300,000
copies have been distributed.
She
is also founder and president of The National Association of Women's
Yellow Pages, where she has guided the development of similar directories
throughout the United States. Currently, the Women's Yellow Pages
is published in 20 cities in 17 states.
Active
in many small business organizations, Ellen was recognized recently
by the NationalAssociation of Women’s Yellow Pages as the Lifetime
Advocate for Women’s Businesses, is a recipient of the Delaware
County Women of Achievement Award and the recent honoree of Delaware
County Chamber's prestigious Athena Award. She also served as a
Delegate to the White House Conference on Small Business in both
1986 and 1995. She was the first recipient to receive the Women
in Business Advocate Award from the Greater Philadelphia Chamber
of Commerce and also received a similar award from the U.S. Small
Business Administration.
In
1995, Ms. Fisher co-founded the Women's Business Development Center
in Philadelphia. The Center provides services and programs that
support and accelerate women's business ownership.
Active
in her community, Fisher is presently serving on the Board of Directors
of the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers and
is an active member in many Chambers. In a nationally publicized
race in 1990, Fisher ran for a seat in the Pennsylvania State House,
making small business issues a cornerstone in her campaign. Since
then she has encouraged and trained other women to run for office.
