I WISH I HAD KNOWN YEARS AGO: That half the stuff doesn’t matter.

DEFINING CAREER MOMENT: It was an ethical one about how doing the right thing is more important than doing things right. I left a job when the right things weren’t being done and decided to go out on my own.

KEY TO SUCCESS: Having a strong support system. In my case it’s my 10 brothers and sisters.

LEADERSHIP TIP: Make many mistakes, but don’t make the same one twice.

LIFE LESSON: Don’t give your energy away to the people who suck the life out of you and make you need an IV energy drip. Thanks to Caller ID, you can see who’s on the phone; so use it!

MENTOR: My parents. Between the 10th and 11th child my mother took up scuba diving and went on worldwide wild expeditions. In contrast, my father’s motto is "Blend in."
